Soles4Souls Benefit Concert In Vegas

Soles4SoulsMany people have been asking and after much digging, SATA discovered that there will be a concert during WSA on July 28 at the Orleans Arena featuring The Doobie Brothers and Three Dog Night.  According to various sources, the Orleans Arena, boho Magazine and several other companies are sponsoring the event to benefit Soles4Souls.  Depending on the response, it could turn out to be a twice a year or even quarterly event.  Tickets for the concert are on sale now and priced at $25.00, $42.50 and $59.00.  For more information, check out www.giveshoes.org or the Orleans Arena website: www.orleansarena.com.

Misuse of WSA Buyers List

Last week SATA Executive Director Shelley Shannon received word from WSA that it appears some of our members have been misusing the WSA Buyers List, putting all members in jeopardy of losing the benefit of the list.  Some members feel it is your right to have the WSA buyers list to do with as you please, however, that is not so.  The buyers list belongs to WSA, which gives SATA the benefit of access to attendance lists, consistent with WSA's policies and procedures currently in place, for retailers in the members' territories.  According to the terms and conditions that SATA members agree to before receiving the list:

  1. List Renter (which means every SATA member who uses the WSA list) agrees that names and data contained in all lists are the exclusive property of The WSA Show.
  2. Because this list and any associated data is valuable property and is of highly confidential nature, the List Renter agrees not to permit any third party, agent, employee or contractor and their respective agents and employees to disclose, enhance, transfer, duplicate, reproduce or retain in any form or manner whatsoever all or any portion of the mailing list.  [This means that members cannot use the list for marketing for any show other than WSA.]
  3. A sample mailing piece must be submitted to The WSA Show for approval prior to the mailing date.  The List Renter agrees that it will not substitute any other mailing piece without first submitting and receiving permission from The WSA Show.
  4. The use of this list and associated data shall be limited solely and exclusively to the agreed upon offer as described in the sample mailing piece approved.  The Renter in no way acquires ownership or rights to further use of these names or data.
  5. The list that has been rented may be monitored to prevent improper and unauthorized use of the list by one or more methods of computer control and/or planted names and addresses.  The List Renter consents and agrees to this monitoring.  Personal and/or telephone solicitation is prohibited.
  6. A List Renter that reuses a list without authorization will be subjected to penalties, held liable for misuse of property and will lose any right to future rentals.
  7. The above conditions apply to every order placed.

SATA Members to Network at NSRA Conference

July08ConferenceBannerHow would you like the opportunity to network with your customers at WSA even before they get to the showroom floor? NSRA has extended an invitation to SATA members to join NSRA retailers, suppliers, and manufacturers for the NSRA Education Conference on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.  In the spirit of partnerships and opportunities for networking, 50 SATA members will receive free entrance ($275 value) into the conference on Retail Dollars & Sense, How Inventory, Labor and Finance Impact Cash Flow and Profits.

The conference doors open at 7:00 a.m. for registration and continental breakfast, with the opening address at 8:30 a.m. by Jim Issler, President and CEO of H.H. Brown Shoe Co., Inc. There will be two breakout sessions in the morning followed by lunch, with one breakout session in the afternoon, and a closing address by James Dion on New Trends that are Re-Shaping Shoe Retailing.  At 5:00 p.m. there will be a networking reception to close out the conference.

NSRA is aware that you will probably be spending part of your day setting up for the WSA Show, so they have provided the opportunity to choose to come for the morning session and lunch, the afternoon session or the entire day.  Take advantage of the opportunity to network with your retailers in a comfortable, informative atmosphere.  To register, email your name, address and phone number to
info@shoetravelers.org and put "NSRA Conference" in the subject line.  But remember, only the first 50 registrants come free!  Registration must be received by July 18.

Consumer Confidence Plummets

Consumer confidence plummeted in June to its lowest level in 16 years amid growing concerns about high prices, falling home values and a tighter job market.

The Consumer Confidence Index is now at 50.4, down from 58.1 in May.  The Present Situation Index fell to 64.5 in June, from 74.2, and, reaching an all-time low, the Expectations index fell to 41.0 from 47.3.

"This month's Consumer Confidence Index is the fifth lowest reading ever," said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center.  Franco added that the record low reading for the Expectations Index mirrored the bleak economic outlook of consumers.
