Travelers Bailing Out

Our thoughts are with everyone throughout the Midwest and elsewhere who are working to stay afloat (literally) during this very bizarre spring rain and tornado season.  If you know someone who has been affected by the storms, let us know.  There are groups out there, such as Two Ten, to help out.  The following is a first hand account of what one family has been going through with the storms in the Midwest:

midweststormJune 11
We are having continued challenges with flooding and high water.   The 8" of rain this past weekend is now flowing into the lake which is up 3 feet from last week and continues to rise.   The crest is not expected until Friday or Saturday.   My dock is 15" under water.  In addition we had strong on-shore winds this afternoon.  To keep the waves from washing the dock away, Matt and I put 1,200 lbs of concrete blocks on it while 12" waves were fighting us...not fun or a pretty picture.   We are trying to walk oN a 3-foot wide dock 15" to 20" under water carrying 70 pound blocks of concrete and not slip or walk off the edge and be in 6 feet of water.

SATA Board Elections

ballotbox3SATA Board Elections will begin on June 27.  This year the elections will be held online for those with access. Everyone will receive his/her own sign-on and password to vote for the candidates in each region.  The program is set up to allow only one vote per person.  Look for an email next week detailing the new online voting procedures.  For those who do not have an email on file, a hard copy of the ballot will be mailed.

Name Change of FedEx Kinko's to FedEx Office

FedEx Kinkos logoFedEx Corporation announced last week that it will change the name of FedEx Kinko's to FedEx Office. The SATA Discount Shipping Program, which is managed by PartnerShip, will continue to offer the FedEx Office member benefit to SATA members.

The FedEx Office name better describes the wide range of services available at its retail centers and takes full advantage of the FedEx brand - long recognized for excellent customer service, quality and reliability. The centers will be rebranded during the next several years.

"Kinko's was primarily a copy and print-service provider when it was acquired in 2004," said Brian D. Philips, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Office. "The name FedEx Office more accurately represents our broader role of providing superior information and services through our company-owned, digitally connected locations around the world. We are a back office for small businesses and a branch office for medium to large businesses and mobile professionals."

SATA Discount Shipping Program members will not have to re-enroll in the new FedEx Office, and the discounts and services users have come to rely on will remain the same. Recession-Proof Shoppers

The results of a new survey released last week reveal that women are still fashionably shopping in today's drooping economic climate -- and spending a lot of money.  The study, conducted in fall 2007, is based on a composite scale of price sensitivity and annual expenditures.

The recession-proof shopper is at the median age of 29, affluent, with a median household income of $62,000; 65% were in the workforce, and only 52% worked full-time.  They are passionate shoppers with 57% spending over $2,000 or more per year on clothes and 40% spending $750 or more per year on accessories and footwear.  About half of the 1,534 women surveyed shop in retail stores to look at, browse or purchase clothes or accessories on a weekly basis.
